Annual leave
Personal / carer's leave
Long service leave (QLD)
How this is calculated
Under the National Employment Standards (NES), a full-time employee accrues:
- Annual leave: 4 weeks (152 hours for a 38-hour week) per year. Shift workers may accrue 5 weeks — adjust the input below if applicable.
- Personal / carer's leave: 10 days (76 hours for a 38-hour week) per year. Accrues progressively and rolls over indefinitely.
- Long service leave: varies by state — e.g. 8.67 weeks after 10 years (Qld/NSW/Vic), or 13 weeks after 15 years (WA). Most states give pro-rata after 7 years.
Accruals are proportional to ordinary hours worked. A part-time employee working 19 hours per week accrues exactly half of a full-time equivalent. Unpaid leave, parental leave over 12 months and periods of strike do not count toward accrual.
Casuals do not accrue annual or personal leave but receive a 25% loading instead. Long service leave rules for casuals depend on the state and whether service has been continuous.
