Rail Industry Award
Covers rail transport operators throughout Australia — rail infrastructure managers, rolling stock managers and their employees — to the exclusion of any other modern award. Three classification streams (CAP — Clerical Administrative & Professional, OP — Operations, TCI — Technical and Civil Infrastructure) with their own rate tables. Standard rate is Level 4 Rail Worker (TCI). Junior rates use a 3-band structure (under 17 / 17 / 18+ adult).
Fully built. Rates, allowances, penalties and any required apprentice / junior rates are all wired to the rate resolver and have been verified against the consolidated award text and the latest pay guide.
What's built
- All three streams seeded as sectors with stream-prefixed classification codes — CAP Levels 1-9, OP Levels 1-6, TCI Levels 1-7.
- Junior rates anchored to L1 of each stream (under 17 at 75%, 17 at 85%, 18+ falls through to adult).
- Apprentice rates anchored to TCI Level 4 or OP Level 3 — pre-2014 (4-year, no Y12 split) and post-2014 (4-year, with Y12 split), plus adult-apprentice rules.
- Casual weekend rates loading-inclusive at 175% / 225% (cl. 21.4) — the 25% casual loading is already baked in.
- Foundry allowance scoped to TCI sector only.
- Right-to-disconnect carve-out (cl. 13A.4) — contact while paying on-call allowance is permitted.
Known limitations
No outstanding gaps at this revision — re-verify on the next Fair Work pay-guide release.
Setup & special instructions
- Each employee must be assigned a stream — CAP, OP, or TCI — to drive the right rate table and any sector-scoped allowances.
- Operations employees don't have a published day-worker span (Operations is shift-based by design); use shift definitions rather than the CAP / TCI 6am-6.30pm spans.
- Annual salary equivalents are calculated as weekly × 313 / 6 (cl. 15.1 footnote) — academic-year style, not the standard 52 weeks.
