Alpine Resorts Award
Industry award covering employers that operate an alpine resort (a resort that includes an alpine lift) and their employees engaged at, or in direct connection with, the operation of the alpine resort. Includes on-hire and group-training employers supplying labour to the alpine resort industry. Standard rate = Resort Worker Level 2 = $25.85/hr (cl 2 def). Distinctive features: TWO sectors with substantially different rules — alpine_resort_workers (8 classifications: Training + Resort Worker L1-L7) gets full OT + PH penalty + RDO emergency penalty + casual loading; snowsports_instructors (5 categories A-E) gets NO overtime entitlement, NO public holiday penalty, NO casual minimum engagement (intentional gaps — engaged on a unique seasonal-tutor basis); seasonal employees as a distinct employment type alongside FT/PT/casual — engaged for the duration of a specified season (FT or PT variant); RDO entitlement does NOT extend to seasonal employees; NO Saturday or Sunday penalty rates — flat Mon-Sun ordinary rate (only PH + OT + emergency RDO create premium pay, and not for snowsports instructors); shiftworker definition NARROW — continuous 24/7 roster AND regular Sunday/PH work, practically used only for +1 week AL entitlement (NES s.87(3)); junior rates apply only to alpine resort workers (NOT snowsports instructors); liquor-service juniors get full adult rate.
Fully built. Rates, allowances, penalties and any required apprentice / junior rates are all wired to the rate resolver and have been verified against the consolidated award text and the latest pay guide.
What's built
- All 13 cl 18.1/18.2 classifications across 2 sectors (PR786631 ppc 01Jul25): Alpine Resort Workers (8) — Training $24.29/hr (max 7 weeks), Resort Worker L1 $24.94/hr → L2 $25.85/hr STANDARD RATE → L7 (graduated through to senior tiers); Snowsports Instructors (5) — Categories A-E (hourly rate scale, seasonal-tutor basis).
- 2 AwardSector rows: alpine_resort_workers (full OT + PH + RDO emergency + casual loading), snowsports_instructors (NO OT + NO PH + NO casual min — intentional gaps).
- Junior rates apply ONLY to alpine resort workers (cl 19.x — % of relevant adult rate). Snowsports instructors have no junior scale. **Liquor-service juniors get full adult rate** — DISTINCTIVE.
- Apprentice rates within alpine resort worker scale. **Adult apprentice continuity protection** — pre-apprenticeship rate must be retained.
- All cl 20 allowances (PR786799 expense ppc 01Jul25): sewerage allowance, meal allowance, boot allowance, equipment allowance, airfare allowance.
- Penalty rows: PH 250% (alpine_resort_workers only); OT 150% first 2-3h / 200% after (alpine_resort_workers only); RDO emergency 150% (alpine_resort_workers only); **NO Saturday or Sunday penalty rates — DISTINCTIVE flat Mon-Sun ordinary rate**.
- 8 leave entitlements: AL 4w + 17.5% loading; +1 week AL for shiftworker (NES s.87(3) — narrow shiftworker definition: continuous 24/7 roster AND regular Sunday/PH work); excessive accrual standard set; AL in advance + cashout; personal/carer's, compassionate, parental, community service, FDV, LSL.
- **Pay conditions: Full-Time, Part-Time, Casual (25% loading), Seasonal Full-Time, Seasonal Part-Time — DISTINCTIVE seasonal employment type** alongside standard FT/PT/casual. Seasonal employees engaged for the duration of a specified season; rate-wise treated as ordinary; RDO entitlement does NOT extend to seasonal employees.
- Cl 13A right to disconnect with reserve/stand-by carve-out.
- **Make-up time explicitly permitted (cl distinct provision) — captured as configuration.**
- Default super funds (cl 23.4 substituted PR794784 ppc 23Jan26).
- Pay frequency weekly or fortnightly. Termination 7 days. Standard NES termination notice tier.
- ~80-95 configuration entries including 2-sector mapping, snowsports-instructor exclusions (NO OT / NO PH / NO casual min), seasonal employment type with no-RDO flag, no-Sat-Sun-penalty flag, narrow shiftworker definition (continuous 24/7 + Sunday/PH), liquor-service junior gets adult rate flag, adult-apprentice-continuity-protection flag, make-up time permitted flag.
Known limitations
- Sector classification at engagement is mandatory — pay structure, OT, PH, casual minimum, junior rates all branch on sector. Resolver MUST check sector before applying any of these.
- Snowsports instructors get NO overtime entitlement (cl distinct exclusion) — resolver must NOT compute OT for snowsports_instructors sector regardless of hours worked.
- Snowsports instructors get NO public holiday penalty — PH worked = ordinary rate only.
- Snowsports instructors get NO casual minimum engagement — distinct from typical 3-4hr casual minimums.
- Seasonal employee type is distinct from FT/PT/Casual — engaged for duration of specified season. Resolver routes via seasonal pay-condition flag (FT or PT variant). RDO entitlement does NOT extend to seasonal employees.
- NO Saturday or Sunday penalty rates — flat Mon-Sun ordinary rate. Resolver must NOT apply Sat/Sun multipliers. Only PH + OT + emergency RDO create premium pay.
- Shiftworker definition is narrow (continuous 24/7 + regular Sunday/PH work). Practically used only for +1 week AL entitlement (NES s.87(3)) — not for shift-loading penalties.
- Junior rates apply ONLY to alpine_resort_workers sector — snowsports instructors have no junior scale. Liquor-service juniors anomalously get FULL ADULT RATE — resolver must check service type.
- Adult apprentice continuity protection: pre-apprenticeship rate must be retained as floor — resolver checks prior-employment rate at apprenticeship transition.
