Hair and Beauty Industry Award
Covers hairdressing, barbering, beauty therapy, nail services and related personal-care work. 6 classifications (L1-L6, standard rate Level 3), 3-tier junior structure (under-17 / 17 / 18+), and 3-year apprentice grids for both hairdressing and beauty therapy with year-12 splits. Penalty rates use time-of-day windows on Saturdays and Sundays — outside the windows, ordinary rate applies.
Fully built. Rates, allowances, penalties and any required apprentice / junior rates are all wired to the rate resolver and have been verified against the consolidated award text and the latest pay guide.
What's built
- All 6 cl. 17.1 classifications including the previously-missing L5 and L6 rows.
- Junior rates: under-17 at 50%, 17 at the distinctive 75%, 18+ as adult.
- Apprentice grids — hairdressing and beauty therapy, both 3-year nominal, with year-12-completed split.
- All cl. 20 allowances — manager, first-aid, Broken Hill, two meal-OT bands, vehicle, clothing reimbursement, tool / equipment, electrical equipment reimbursement, travel time / transport / excess and moving expenses.
- Time-windowed FT / PT penalties — Saturday 7am-6pm at 133%, Sunday 10am-5pm at 200%, public holiday any time at 250%, RDO any time at 200%.
- Separate casual penalty windows captured as configuration — Mon-Fri before 7am / after 9pm at 150%, Sunday any time at 225%.
Known limitations
- Saturday / Sunday penalty windows are seeded but the resolver must apply ordinary rate outside those windows — verify the time-window logic is in your payroll engine before relying on it.
- Casual penalties differ from FT / PT (different windows, e.g. Mon-Fri 150% before 7am / after 9pm) — captured as configuration keys; resolver must consult employment type when computing penalty rates.
- Apprentice variant enum reuses '4_year' for hairdressing and '3_year' for beauty therapy as a schema workaround. Pre-apprentice and trainee tables (Tables 10-12) not yet seeded.
- Annual leave loading 'greater of 17.5% or weekend penalty' (cl. 24.2) is captured as a configuration key; the comparison is evaluated by the resolver at payslip time.
Setup & special instructions
- Saturday and Sunday penalties only apply within the cl. 23 time windows (Sat 7am-6pm, Sun 10am-5pm for FT / PT). Outside those windows, FT / PT ordinary rate applies.
- Cl. 23.3 RDO 4-hour minimum payment — config key seeded; ensure the resolver enforces the floor when an employee is rostered onto their RDO by agreement.
